Preparing Future Faculty

During the final year of my PhD I was been given the opportunity to participate in the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program organized by the Duke Graduate School. This yearlong program offers students a wide range of experiences in higher education from universities and colleges around the Research Triangle.

Through the program I normally would have had the opportunity to attend site visits to 7 diverse higher education institutions in the North Carolina Research Triangle, however due to the global pandemic, we were not able to visit all of the institutions. The participating institutions include
  • Duke University
  • North Carolina State University (visit cancelled due to Covid-19)
  • North Carolina Central University (visit cancelled due to Covid-19)
  • Durham Technical Community College
  • Meredith College
  • Elon University (visit cancelled due to Covid-19)
  • Guilford College.
I also met regularly with a mentor in the biology department at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC to learn more about faculty life and the requirements of the position at a smaller teaching-focused institution.

More information about the program can be found here.
